For
your safety, please read and sign the waiver.
Before
swimming at Kulaniapia, you must read and sign our waiver
and you must check with your innkeeper ON THE DAY YOU'D LIKE
TO SWIM to find out about the local weather and rain conditions.
To
Swim at the bottom of Kulaniapia Falls is a wonderful experience
however, there are some things you should know. For one thing,
the flow rate of the Waiau River can change dramatically from
one day to the next. Your innkeeper will keep you advised as
to whether it is safe to swim.
You
will notice immediately that Kulaniapia Pond is pretty much
in its natural condition. Kona side hotels have re-created
the illusion of waterfalls and natural pools, however Kulaniapia
is the real deal and therefore you should be aware that getting
into and out of the water will require a bit of effort on your
part. We also have some rules in place to help make your experience
enjoyable and safe.
1)
You should never drink any water from any rivers or streams
in the State of Hawaii. This is because of a bacteria called
Leptospirosis which can cause illness and flu like symptoms.
Because the flow rate for the Waiau is very high, so is the
dilution rate of bacteria, and the possibility for infection
is very low…..HOWEVER….if you are pregnant, or
have open sores or cuts on your body, you should refrain from
entering the pond.
2)
Stay 20 feet away from the waterfall.
3)
No diving
4)
Children 17 and younger must be accompanied by an adult AT
ALL TIMES
5)
Swimming is only allowed in the pond at the bottom
of Kulanapia Falls
I,
the undersigned, have read the above rules and agree to abide
by them. I understand that there is no lifeguard on duty and
that I am swimming at my own risk and will not hold the Sutton
family or their assigns responsibility for injury or loss.
